DESCRIPTION:Le thème DYNABIO a invité Nick Schafstall\, post-doctorant au « Nature Research Centre » de l’Université de Vilnius\, à donner un séminaire. Celui-ci s’intitule « Long peat records from Central Europe with evidence of bark beetle outbreaks and fire events. » et se tiendra le jeudi 28 novembre à 10h en salle -107M\, laboratoire Chrono-environnement (16 Route de Gray\, 25000 Besançon). \nABSTRACT\nBeetle (Coleoptera) macrofossils are not commonly used in palaeoecology\, despite the wealth of information they can add to palaeoenvironmental reconstructions. My PhD project focused on the identification of beetle remains from a 1000-year-long peat record from the High Tatra Mountains in Slovakia. This record contains large amounts of bark beetles and peaks in bark beetle concentrations could be linked to a pollen record and charcoal record from the same site\, showing the recent bark beetle outbreak in the High Tatra Mountains but likely also two previous outbreaks. Likely\, there was a link between bark beetle outbreaks and changes in the local fire regime\, which might be related to human activities. More recent work from two other peatland sites in Slovakia and Czechia did not produce evidence for insect outbreaks or fire events. Results from the three sites will be compared and discussed.
