Ancient DNA – Paleo-ecosystems – Ancestral microbiomes – Functional paleogenomics
Presentation
Originally from Italy and educated across Europe, I have made France my professional home. A microbiologist by training, I apply ancient DNA to reconstruct microbiomes and uncover their roles in past ecosystems, aiming to understand how microbial and ecological communities adapted to climatic and anthropogenic pressures over time—because learning from the past is key to building resilient ecosystems in a changing world. I am especially interested in ancestral functions and the traits that enabled organisms to cope with environmental change. Our research spans diverse themes—from paleo-ecosystem reconstruction to the co-evolution of plant–microbe interactions and the impact of landscape transformation on biodiversity—united by the goal of understanding long-term ecological responses to environmental stress.
