Biogeo Research Topic

Functioning of the biogeosphere

Research animator: FABBRI Olivier

In this theme, the laboratory brings together three areas of expertise:

Biogeo Research Topic

1. Functioning of aquatic ecosystems
It brings together researchers in aquatic ecology, working on different biological materials: macro- and aquatic microfauna, aquatic vegetation, and hydrogeologists, specialists in the operation of underground hydro-systems varied in sedimentary (including karstic), crystalline and olcanic domains. The objects of study are lakes, rivers and karst systems. The methods are based on correlative analyzes of field patterns, but also on experimental analyzes, in the laboratory, when the research focuses on the response of hydrosystems or, within them, of categories of organisms, to environmental variables of forcing. .

2. Functioning of agrosilvopastoral ecosystems
This center of expertise brings together researchers in the ecology of populations and animal, plant and microbial communities, as well as modelers. The terrestrial semi-natural ecosystems concerned are grasslands, forests and meadow-woodland, integrated in landscapes strongly influenced by human activities. The methods used articulate observation (synchronic and diachronic approaches), experimentation and modeling (statistics and dynamics).

3. How geosystems work
This center of expertise brings together researchers in Earth sciences with multiple specialties: sedimentologists, petrographers of surface or depth rocks, mineralogists, geochemists, hydrogeologists, tectonics, geophysicists. The objects of study are the sedimentary basins (France), the mountain ranges (Massif Central, Jura, Alps, Pyrenees, Andes, Northern China), the metalliferous provinces (France, Morocco, Canada), the subduction zones (Japan , Costa Rica). For these different projects, the field approach is favored, based on international partnerships.
