Molecular biology, microbiology, environment

Themes of research:

  • Study relationships between genotoxicity and bioaccumulation of contaminants (As, Cd
    and Hg) in land snails.
  • Palaeogenetics applied to the study of ancient parasites
  • Environmental microbiology and management of polluted sites through phytomanagement.

I am currently supervising the work of Lorraine Meyer, whose thesis aims to improve our knowledge of the mechanisms involved in mercury tolerance by rhizospheric tolerance to mercury by rhizospheric microorganisms, in order to better understand their role in the biotransformation and transfer of this contaminant to non-agricultural soils (industrial wasteland).

Current projects:

EDAPHOS – Combining advanced methods for mapping risk assessment and natural decontamination to speed up the rehabilitation of remediation of contaminated soils and make ecological restoration a common practice
since: 01/09/2023 → 31/08/2027.

BIOSYSMO – BIOremediation systems using SYnergieS for better elimination of mixed pollution (https://www.biosysmo.eu) – Ongoing since 01/09/2022 → 31/08/2026.

RESILIENCE – Role of rhizospheric mIcroorganisms from an industrial wasteland at sea – Ongoing since: 01/09/2022→ 31/08/2025.

FREIDI-Hg – Promoting the Reduction of In situ Emissions via Dendromass: the case of Mercury Interception – Completed: 02/03/2015 →28/02/2017.
